Transexuals and Dennis Trillo

The most recent Palaban episode tackled the issue on transexuals or specifically, men who underwent sex reassignment surgery (SRS).  I have been able to watch several documentaries and TV shows that talked about male to female SRS but I’ve never seen one that featured female to male surgeries… I would assume that this type of sex reassignment surgery is far less common than the male to female type.

Since nobody could answer me when I asked out loud whether female to male sex reassignment surgery is even possible, I went to the ever-reliable Wikipedia for information.  Turns out that female to male SRS is possible but is more complicated.  Here’s an excerpt from the Wikipedia entry:

…in the case of transmen (female to male) , this term may entail any of a variety of procedures, from the mastectomy (removal of the female breasts) to the shaping of a male-contoured chest to the construction of a penis. Additionally, transmen usually undergo a hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.

Big medical words that didn’t really make that much sense until I clicked on the links (I suggest you do the same).

I just realized that this entry’s title might just be a little misleading… The reason why I am posting about transexuals and Dennis Trillo in the same breath is simply because of coincidences:  I watched the Palaban episode on the same night I was able to grab a still image from last Sunday’s SOP where Dennis traipsed around the stage bare-chested to Regine Velasquez’s version of Vogue.

Not his usual style but effective.  For those who are used to Trillo’s goody-goody, boy-next-door image, here’s a different look: angas “Rock-On” sign complete with bare chest and black wings (very Victoria’s Secret).  And just in case you’re wondering, yes, this is the same episode where Pauleen Luna fell flat on her a** but I did not go into the trouble of posting that very unfortunate episode here–there are probably numerous entries about it on YouTube already.  With that incident and Dennis, I personally would vote for that particular Sunday’s SOP rather than it’s counterpart (ASAP) in ABS-CBN (although majority of television viewers would disagree with me).  Been hearing (and reading) comments that ASAP went overboard with its welcome to former GMA talent Angel Locsin…

Before getting drawn into the network wars (this post is getting weird) I would just like to reiterate my disbelief in how networks make actors/actresses out of reality TV show winners.  I already voiced my case against Margarita (I was able to watch bits of the show by the way and I still hold to my original opinion: Wendy Valdez does not know how to act. Kudos for the effort though).  I just recently found out that another set of Pinoy Big Brother housemates are starring in another ABS-CBN show weirdly entitled Lovespell presents “Bumalaka, Bulalakaw, Boom!”.  With a title like that, should I dare hope?  I actually saw a TV trailer for the show earlier today and I just literally shook my head in disbelief. Again, there are talents who deserve the break more. Honestly, if the network wants to create another avenue for new talents then they should produce a talent search.  Doesn’t ABS-CBN hold workshops for aspiring actors/actresses?  Couldn’t they get anyone there?

A side comment: for the people behind Marimar, I love the show but you should do something to check on the continuity.  Case in point; Caridad Sanchez as Lola Cruz in one scene has dark hair.  In the next scene, her hair’s gray.  She either dyed her hair whilst Marimar was canoodling with Sergio or she aged drastically within the day. The staff should pay closer attention to the details because it’s little details like this that ruin the experience for viewers.  I suddenly remember this scene from Peter Jackson’s KingKong (which I watched for the nth time a few days ago on HBO): it was right after that very long fight scene between Kong and “T-Rexes”, and Naomi Watts was all wet since she fell into this deep puddle.  Kong picks her up and puts her over his shoulder then the scene cuts to a front shot of Kong running with Naomi’s curls suddenly all dry!  Even Peter Jackson gets it wrong sometimes…details people! The little details count!

i wasn’t able to watch SOP that sunday…too bad, it would have been better on TV than on the very pixelated versions on youtube.

he actually does this rock on pose thing often with fans…my sister asked for a photo and he did that too…but the whole look — waaah! wish talaga i would have seen it sa TV…

according to a friend, matinding pilitan before he agreed to go on wearing that. he really didn’t want to do it but eventually gave in naman.
