Just DUET! :)

Tim Yap (photo grabbed from PEP)I was almost late for work because I finished Celebrity Duets (Philippine edition) last night on GMA.  I watched the show for the first time last week and I’ve been rooting for Tim Yap ever since (beauty queen Theresa Licaros was the first one to be eliminated).  Yes, I know he’s not the best singer in the group but he is just so fun to watch.  Last night for example, he sang Gold by Spandau Ballet with Randy Santiago.  They wore identical gold jackets and Tim also had a very BIG pair of sunglasses.  Although he fumbled for a bit when the glasses almost fell off, he just continued performing.

My second favorite’s Tessa Prieto-Valdes who performed My Humps by the BEP with none other than Billy Crawford (who seems so hot right now).  Like Tim, she’s just so FUN to watch!  Last week she performed with Jolina Magdangal and the latter even sported a yellow wig to complement Tessa’s colorful costume.  (Come to think it, this was probably where Tim got the idea to wear identical jackets and the costume shades for his duet with Randy.) In her column for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, she confessed that she bought a WOW Magic Sing for practice and even got a professional voice coach.  Just goes to show that these celebrities are taking the competition seriously especially since part of the prize money would go to the winner’s charity of choice.

Wyngard Tracy and Frederick Peralta are among the best singers in the group.  They’re consistently good.  Last night, Peralta sang with balladeer Nonoy Zuñiga (arguably one of the best Filipino singers EVER) while Wyngard crooned his own version of Vincent with Paolo Santos.  Both Wyngard and Frederick sounded like professional singers but the talent manager probably bested the fashion designer in stage presence; he just looked so confident and “at-home” onstage.

My least favorite performances would probably be the ones by Jessica Rodriguez-Bunevacz and Dr. Manny Calayan.  Jessica sang Louie Ocampo’s Tell Me with Joey G. of Side A; I just felt so uncomfortable while listening to her sing.  I don’t know if it’s because she’s out of tune or if it’s because of the way she pronounced some of her words.  Doc Manny sang that cute song from the movie Music and Lyrics (the title escapes me right now) with Rachel Alejandro.  Sorry but it just didn’t work for me.  Maybe cutesy songs just don’t sit right with the doctor.  I think his song choice last week was better suited for him.

Dr. Hayden Kho (photo grabbed from PEP)I personally think that Dr. Hayden Kho Jr. stole the show.  He belted it out with Luke Mijares, singing the more modern version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow.  Although his hands were visibly trembling, he was brave enough to risk the very high notes and even a falsetto at the end.  The highlight of his performance was probably when he started jumping up and down like a little boy right after his performance (he looked so darn cute!).  I just have to say this: Dr. Vicky Belo is one very lucky girl.  Hayden is definitely a crowd favorite not only because he can actually sing–the fact that he’s easy in the eyes is also a definite plus.

Celebrity Duets (Philippine Edition) airs every Saturday on GMA-7 at 7pm.

girl, deaf ka ba? I know malinaw ang eyes mo, very good looking nga si Hayden… pero naman, masakit sa ears ang singing voice nya, i have to turn down the volume when i watch the show para hindi ako maturn off sa kanya. 🙂

memoriam: cut me some slack 🙂 I posted this entry after watching the 2nd episode and his performance that night was quite good. Hindi masyadong sintunado. I think his performances steadily went downhill after this post. I have to agree with you… Sana he stuck with songs that fit his voice…lately kasi napapangiwi ako pag kumakanta na sya. He’s still easy on the eyes though… 🙂
