Dumbledore is Gay

Albus DumbledoreYou read it right. Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, the esteemed wizard and the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is gay. This was confirmed by no less than J.K. Rowling herself, the author of the Harry Potter series.

You can read the full article here.

Personally, I don’t think Dumbledore’s sexuality is that big a deal. His being gay does not make him any less of a wizard nor did it lessen his influence on the Harry Potter character.

Certain Christian groups claimed that the Harry Potter books promoted witchcraft (although I beg to disgree). It’s probably a good thing that this particular detail came out after the last book was published. I mean, can you imagine the furor this would have caused?

I agree with you that Dumbledore’s “gay-ness” did not make him any less of a wizard nor did it lessen his influence on Harry. Maybe that’s the message that JK Rowling is trying to get across – that gays can do their work well. Maybe we need to move away from the idea that ALL gay men are obsessed with having sexual relations with other men.
