I guess almost everyone who watch local television are now aware that GMA-7 was able to get permission from Toei to make a sequel of some sorts to the 1984 Japanese TV series “Shaider”. The modernized Shaider will be entitled Zaido (the network wasn’t able to get permission to use the original name) and will center around the descendants of the orginal hero. Dennis Trillo and Starstruck winners Marky Cielo and Aljur Abrenica are cast as cousins who will don different colored costumes of the “Pulis Pangkalawakan”. Dennis will be in blue, Marky in green and Aljur in red (reminiscent of Bioman?).
I’m a fan of the original Japanese series. I’m guessing that most Pinoy kids who were alive in the 80’s either had a crush on Alexis or were looking forward to a glimpse of Annie’s underwear. I was actually a bit shocked to find out that actor Hiroshi Tsuburaya (Shaider) died of liver cancer on June 2001 while actress Naomi Morinaga (Annie) now works as a J-porn actress. I couldn’t believe it at first until I actually saw a picture of her showing more than her underwear…
I also found out recently that Babaylan Ida (God Officer Poe in the original Jap version) is actually a transvestite. I assumed as a kid that Ida was a female who just happened to have a deep voice. Her–or rather HIS–line “Time Space Warp…Ngayon din!” is probably the most popular and well-remembered dialogue from the the series. I heard that Eat Bulaga’s Paolo Ballesteros will reprise the role. 
Fans like myself are eager for Shaider’s comeback. As Ederic so eloquently put it: “Muling salubungin si Shaider! Time-space warp, ngayon din!“

no, they didn’t get permission from TOEI… hindi sila pinayagan. so they just went ahead with a few changes here and there (3 main characters etc.)
basically it’s the whole captain barbell ripping off smallville all over again… it’s just that this time they actually tried getting permission before ripping off the concept.

memoriam: GMA got permission from TOEI to remake the series but not to use the name SHAIDER thus the network renamed it to ZAIDO. If you’ll look closely at the title cards used in the trailers, you’ll see the TOEI trademark.

Nkakamiss yung shaider . I watched it in YouTube and I miss my childhood. I always argued to my mother of watching Shaider instead of Thats Entertainment..

mahirap na ulitin ang shaider sa ngayon, kasi wala na silang mga molde ng mga action figure (o mga robot, toy weapon) na kaakibat ng bentahe ng palabas.
totoo niyan kasama sa pagpapalabas ng mga show ay para magbenta rin ng mga items, mga toys t-shirt, at mga product placement na nasa palabas ( kung mapapansin nyo na ang kulay ng damit ni alexis delmundo, ay kakulay ng sasakyan niya ay siguro may subconcious message na bumili kayo ng sasakyan, o yung jacket) sa japan nalang, ganun ang nangyari sa mga magulang na ayun sa mga manunulat ay na peste ng kanilang mga anak para bumili ng mga pokemon products nung kasikatan pa nito.
kung magkakaroon ng bagong shaider, dapat kasama nito ang deal with toy manufacturer( saban, bandai, tomy)
sa pagiging porn actress ni annie, wala tayong talagang ganun, negosyo lang talaga yun.
